Interesting premise that ultimately fell flat. I was caught up in this book for most of the first half. Things started to fall apart and there were a few too many things going on that were left undeveloped while other plot points were just tossed in. I wish this would have been a stronger book.

I thought this book was heart-breaking and excellent. What World War II book is not heart breaking? I loved how there were really two stories about the girl - one about her being a child, and simultaneously having to be a grown-up in the middle of a war. I highly recommend this book!

Why on earth would anyone ever want to put themselves through the physical trauma that is Everest? I like all my fingers and toes and brain cells right where they are, thank you very much. This book was fascinating on so many levels. Read Anatoli Boukreev's The Climb to get the other side of the story.

Loved it. And I'm really looking forward to reading the other two books in the trilogy.
