I bought this book after hearing the author on a radio broadcast. I was fascinated that he actually travels to the remote places he writes about. Even more fascinating was the fact he was traditionally tattooed by the natives he talks about where the story takes place, Nuku Hiva. Now for Land of Men. At first I found myself distracted by the almost un-natural dialogue between Captain Samuel, Mike and the natives. In the beginning this seemed to take away from the plot and was distracting to me. I've seen author's do this before when trying to recreate a different time fram and place. For me had the author avoided this attempt at un-necessary authenticity it would have de the book even better. A major strength of the author is his ability to weave a timeless story that holds the reader throughout the book. I can find many structural flaws in the book but in the end the story held my interest and I longed for more and what would happen next. I would recommend this book to anyone that can look beyond the literary flaws that occur throughout the book but are looking for something different, moving and not least spiritual. Sylvia
