Like the author I live in Turkey and am also a sailor and circumnavigator so I was interested in getting hold of his book Land of Men. He's somewhat of a celebrity here having been in the news so much after the 2004 tsunami and later his mideast adventures. Anyhow back to the book. In my previous life as a teacher of literature I feel compelled to say the authors strong point lies more with his ability to create a good tale than make it seem natural. I can easily find fault with sentence structue and other literary skills but the story itself is a good one that the author brings to life for us through one struggle after another. While I could make many suggestions for improvement to the story in the end it's a compelling and moving one. I would recommend this book for anyone willing to look beyond strucural flaws in favor of something very different. Carl
