Listened to this in the car with my kids. Found myself in tears at least once, maybe more.

Listened to the 5 x 45m BBC Radio adapation on Radio 7 and found it very involving, moving, and a real insight in to What Makes Good Teachers Tick and the inter war period.

Reading this book was an eye-opening experience as to what "The South" was like in decade before I was born. Having grown up in the Midwest, it seems like I'm reading about another country. Great read!
