This book really opened my eyes as to what goes into my food (or rather, my stomach). I have been trying to cut down on the amount of meat I eat, for humane as well as environmental reasons, but this book showed me that I can be doing more to be helping the environment. That being said, this book made me feel guilty. Really guilty. I felt guilty for not eating free range meat, guilty for eating bananas, guilty for not drinking local beer and wine. I'm sure that's more the 17 years of Catholic school than the author's intention, but, to be honest, I feel overwhelmed now. I don't know where to start to eat locally. And whenever I look at the produce in my refrigerator, all I can think of is the oil and energy it took to get from California to my house.
