Swanson writes about Lincoln's funeral procession in a specially outfitted train that took his remains from Washington to Springfield and acted as a catharsis for a shocked nation. Swanson adds to this the journey of Jefferson Davis as he flees Richmond and is ultimately captured a month later. Lincoln goes onto to become American's Saint and Davis to, as Swanson puts it, America's lost statesman. Swanson wrote "Manhunt" about the hunt for John Wilkes Booth, a good book. It seems that he had some extra material on hand and put together, in a rather slapdash way, this book. Lincoln, at least, deserves better.
Great read! Shows that even the worst person can redeem themselve. <3
