i was ready to hate this book. I am usually not a fan of books that have been super hyped up. I was so wrong! From the first page, I was sucked in.

The beginning captured my interest immediately. The use of language was lovely. But I was disturbed by the author's (via the protaganist) premise of the pervasivness of madness--and his connection of sexuality with madness. It's not that I am disturbed by reading about evil and sin and insanity and sex, but it is an overwhelming theme of this book and I found that very much of a distraction to the theme of redemption.
