A book about the history of marriage, or was intended to be that. It picks up the story two years after Eat, Pray, Love journey when Elizabeth finds herself obliged to marry her Brazilian boyfriend after he was (deported) from the US for visa problems. I enjoyed the part where she laid historical facts of western marriage as they were all new to me and I was curious to read about it, but I didn't like the fact that she didn't provide a list of references of all that research she made. On the other hand, I disliked the personal part of the book as it seemed like she is a self-proclaimed person with all the complaining of getting married to a person she loves.. It somehow seemed like she was justifying it to herself or at least that what it is!

I had this book for 3 years and tried reading it 4 times. I finally succeeded on my continuous 4-day long journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Starts slow but once u get past chapter 4 or 5 it gets quite good. Typical "colonial" themes (you'll realise after reading a few more of these books) but not bad read in general.
