This is a fantastic biography of arguably the most-important, least romanticized figure among the founding fathers. Everyone knows that Aaron Burr gunned him down and, maybe, most people realize his involvement with the Federalist Papers and the Treasury Department. What Chernow does is explain how modern America very much evolved along the lines that Hamilton envisioned. Importantly, Chernow doesn't pull any punches. This successful vision of America was opposed by Jefferson and Chernow does not hold back from criticizing him.
