Reeves did a phenomenal job on the portrayal of Fancy and Kit Cordelle. At first, it was hard to stumble into--teenage girls overpowering adults in a psychotic rage? I set the book down after the first two chapters, and began reading it again a week ago, giving it another try. This time around, I fell in love with the plot. Chapter by chapter, Dia revealed Fancy and Kit--I learned something new about their personalities with each page. Where in the first chapter, the girls were one in the same, by the end, they were like dusk and dawn---looked slighty similar, but brought very, very different things to the table. The only regret I have with this novel is not reading her first novel based in Portero, Bleeding Violet. It took me quite some time to figure out what exactly was going on; is this real, or just in the mind of these psychopaths? All in all, great novel, great characters, great ending. I look forward to purchasing Bleeding Violet and looking more into the world of Portero.

I'm not quite sure what to think of this book. It's beautifully written and very subtle in its genius. However, it might have been a little too subtle and was left feeling as if I had missed something during the reading (which I most likely had). The thing I liked best about the characters are that they are unique in their ordinary-ness. Fenno, who could be argued is the main character, is in many ways everyman, looking for acceptance from his family, friends, and life. Fern's reentry into the story in the last part was jarring, but also fit.
