i have not actually finished this book. in fact, although i tried several times to do so, i just couldn't do it. this is quite possibly the most boring story i have ever read.

Despite what you think of Ayn Rand or Objectivism the Fountainhead is a reccomended read if for no reason other than to have fodder for critically hating on Rand and the book itself. I think the story is compelling to anyone passionate about integrity and creativity, but Rand's depiction of sex (or rape,as it were) leaves my feminist sensibilities ruffled to say the least. So if you can ignore the overt love of capitalism, weird power struggles (sexual and otherwise) that translate to what Rand presents as some dysmorphic depiction of true love. Note: if you are no longer a teenager and reading the book for the first time, you will probably hate it. If you are a teenager and reading it for the first time and hate it, i applaud you.

Gun, With Occasional Music was an entertaining blend of a hard-boiled detective novel and science fiction. It's fun & imaginitive.
