This book is about as kid friendly to the Holocaust and WWII as you can get. I read it when I was a kid, but I remember it being a lot better than when I read it now.
Another guilty pleasure is horror novels. I enjoy Le Maitre, Stephen King, especially when he's at the top of his game. This is a particularly nasty piece of work, starring my favorite horror subgenre--haunted houses. I just love em. It scared the holy heck out of me when I read it ages and ages ago. There was a movie version which was horribly cheesy and not at all scary.
