This book is good but it's taking me a while to read it. Some parts really move and some parts really drag. This book was like 4 books. It took that long to read too.

You won't be able to put this book down. A real page-turner, keeping you on the edge of your seat. Piccoult once again masterfully tells a tale that no one wants to hear, but awakens the reader to the fact that it could be real. We NEED to hear. This DOES happen. And through the course of the story, helps us to understand why. In this novel, Peter is bullied all of his life and one day realizes he can't take it anymore. His act of revenge changes the town forever. Changes the people...changes lives. A shockingly sad, but real look at what it means to be different, to be bullied, to be lost and desperate.

I have to agree with some of the other readers that this book was very disappointing. I also knew that the book would have a religious tone, but I had no idea it would consume most of the book. I really wanted to read about this famiy's plight but there was only an occasional paragraph of the situation sprinkled in between the pages and pages of scripture and preaching and endless self questioning. To be honest, I started the book and became quite impatient and skipped page after page after page trying to get to the actual story and found it somewhere toward the end. I never did read the entire book, I couldn't wade through it. But being a mother and having a not so perfect son myself, but not to the degree of murder, I do understand some of the feelings she has encountered. My heart goes out to her and the victim's family.
