In more of an audio course than a book, Vera Birkenbihl has structured a vast amount of information on how memory works into a simple and accessible model, supported by a heap of research in psychology, neurobiology and other fields related to memory. Most of the time in the audio course is spent on explaining what memory is, how it works and dispelling common myths. This is then used as a springboard to jump into tips, tricks and techniques to improve one's own memory in a number of areas. Her primary technique is the Anchorman list, a peglist where each item represents both a number and a letter of the alphabet, making it useful for memorizing any number or random sequence of letters, internal ordering of things and to guide free association, a creativity exercise. The main downside for me was that the course is not delivered digitally. One must order the set of CDs and wait for them to arrive in the mail. Of course, being the impatient bugger that I am, I purchased the course and then torrented the whole thing while I was waiting for the CDs. Do purchase it FIRST if you are going to torrent it though, Ms. Birkenbihl definitely deserves her dues for this excellent course.
