Vaov! Ne güzel bir hikaye. Sadece yere koyamadım. Sonu sevdi ve hala durmasını istemiyordu. Filmi dört gözle bekliyorum.

I loved reading about this amazing girl Princess. Well written. Just sorry to realize what a sad part we played in Hawaiian history. The Photos added to the book. Well done. Lovely cover. I now want to read Linnea's book "Raoul Wallenberg."

Also one of my all-time favorites.

My boys and I cheered as soon as we heard the voice and realized it was Daniel Pinkwater! Yay!

The thing that most struck me about this novel was that it was so obviously intended to be an emulation of Steinbeck; and most specifically The Grapes of Wrath. In fact I would say that it is basically a reworking of TGoW into a modern setting. Anyone not buying that should just compare the endings of the two books (not comparing to the great film adaption [with Henry Fonda] that ended in a different and far more optimistic manner.) Of course whereas TGoF focused only on the Joad family with all sympathies there, Tortilla Curtain tries for a sympathetic presentation on both sides of the racial/class barrier. This actually annoyed me. I would rather have had just rich white Americans who make no secret of their racism and lack of sympathy for the poor, then someone like Delaney who actually behaves the same, but engages in all this guilty angst over it. I probably would not have read this to completion, but it was the February selection for a book discussion club I belong to so I kept at it.

I had to buy this as soon as I finished Wicked. The story just gets better. How horrible we can be to one another. How compassionate we can be. This book does what most great books do; it holds up the mirror to the human soul. Problem is, he sneaks in some much great stuff around the edges of the mirror. I kept getting lost in the story.
