I gave it 5 stars because if you've read all the books that came before it, you might have a stronger understanding of what is going on and a sense of empathy for Sookie. If you haven't read the previous books, you might think it is more of a 3.7 -7. Sookie finds out even more about the magical world that just a few short years ago seem like fiction and fairy tales. She finds out more about her family history wasn't how it appeared to be. She has grown from an innocent pure southern ball to a walking death sentence. No matter how much she tries, it doesn't seem like she is able to climb out of the ever growing deep open grave she is in.
I feel like I am still absorbing this book. It took me a long time to finish ($3.60 in late fees at the library!), but I never wavered in wanting to. I loved how surreal it was, and I didn't find the lack of resolution on so many of the plot lines as frustrating as I would have expected myself to. I guess the whole nature of the book didn't make me feel like I was owed that. The most intense and interesting part for me was the story set in Mongolia. A very strange, and strangely compelling, novel.
