Beautiful writing style, the author does a wonderful job creating the creepy and suspenseful mood throughout the novel. The short stories in the novel are great by themselves. The ending really didn't do it for me. If I could go half-stars, I would have given it a 3.5.

Although I gave this book 3 stars, I still enjoyed reading it and recommend it with this caution: there are parts that just seem to go on a bit too long, but this is partly because the story is trying to flesh out 5 different characters, some more successfully fleshed out than others. The end result was satisfying and tied up loose ends nicely. I also enjoyed Kate Morton's writing style and the overall gothic feel of the mysteries of Milderhurst Castle and the Sisters Blythe. I am looking forward to reading Morton's The Forgotten Garden next, which has received strong reviews.
