This was a powerful book. I found myself wanting to resist some of his findings, but having to realize that they were true. I especially liked the afterward because I feel like it's similar to where we are today and I related to some of the feelings and situations expressed there. As a mother of trans-racially adopted children, books like this are an invaluable source of information - although it's also scary to realize the racism that is often hidden from view. I know that I have ingrained prejudices that I don't even realize are there. Reading this helped me to recognize some of them. I've also experienced the reverse racism he mentions in the afterward. Hopefully with each generation we will get better and better at overcoming the racial divide.
