When I first read this book, I cried. It follows the story of a young girl who is raped by a popular student of her school while she and her friends are at a summer party. While trying to blend in, and become invisible to those around her in the time following, the novel stresses the emotions and thoughts of the girl. While trying to cope with the trauma, the girl is forced to deal with high school drama while bumping into her rapist in the school halls. After nearly a year of silence, the girl finds her voice, and speaks out against what happened to her. While the story is fictional, the issues are not. There are many young girls and women who've been raped. They have lived this story. While some do report the rape to authorities, many feel shamed into staying quiet, and never get the closure they need. Perhaps, this novel will help these girls to find their own voice.
