the novel itself is lovely, but i particularly enjoyed the postscript, in which eco (my current favorite essayist) discourses on his own writing process.
How much did I love this book? Let me count the ways....
I'm reading this book with my 10-year-old nephew, who like me was a huge fan of "Eragon." It has a talking dragon, an epic battle of good vs. evil, a princess and an unsuspecting hero. It's a great read.
Very honest depiction of drug addiction and the effects on family and friends. I'm a non-druggie yet I relate to what this girl musta went thru. It really hits you right there.
I really enjoyed this book. What starts off as a humorous journey ends up as a heart-breaking reflection. The alternative narrative style was refreshing and not at all off-putting.
At least it was short!
I'm not sure I ever really believed that Alice was a vampire. I kept forgetting, and that is not something to forget. The only thing that made me think- Oh, that's right! She's a vampire!- was she drank blood. She didn't seem much different at all than human Alice, which I guess Hocking wanted to keep her the same overall, so that she wouldn't be unrecognizable. Another reason I rated this book lower than the other two, was Mae. I loved Mae in the other two, and this one she is so moody and it makes me sad when she a Ezra fight! I do understand why Mae's moody/distraught-- I just hated that she had to take it all out on everyone in the house. Okay, those were my two reasons I rated Flutter lower, but I did still like it. I really enjoyed all the intense scenes (there are a lot more in this book) and I could not put the book down. So though I do really like Flutter, I don't love it as I did the others.
