This was probably the best book I've read in a while! It really made me want to learn more about Islamic culture and Muslim women in particular. The story obviously focuses a lot on religious issues but also on gender issues and all-encompassing human issues such as death, love and the struggle to find yourself. The book takes a little bit of work to read because Mohja Kahf uses a lot of Arabic terms and references to things that might not be familiar to non-Muslims but if you work through it (and maybe look a few things up along the way) it is a really thought-provoking and touching story. This is definitely one of those books that I am going to re-read over and over. I REALLY recommend it!
