The second time I read this book, I think I had picked it up to consult a passage that had abruptly entered into my head, perhaps. When I put it back down again several hours had vanished, the sky was dark, and I was feeling, once again, for a youth not exactly mine, but one that felt remembered all the same. The breathless firsts, the breathless hurts, and a fair amount of mischief- and merry-making in between. Yes, that sounds like an age, and the coming of it. I think teenage voices are hard to capture without coming across as reductive or even pandering. John Green does it with a vividness and veracity that portrays the bluster and blemishes with equal prowess. Anyway, it's pretty good.
