If I was back in middle school this book would have made me sleep with the lights on. It was a lot darker and creepier than I had thought. I haven't see the movie yet so I do not know how it compares, but overall it was a very good story and quick read.

I would not still have been reading this book today if I had started it this particular week, given how bleak and even brutal it is. I would have put it down for another time. I did put it down, in fact, many times, for several days at a time. But I'm glad I finished, and I did find that the second half of the book more than made up for the first half. I was just dazzled--again and again and again--by the vivid images, the insights and ideas, and just the words. And I could feel myself opening back up to a book that had put a knot in my stomach for weeks. I'll read Seeing sometime, for sure.
