In a very insular Ultra-religious Jewish community, Gittel and her best friend Devory grow up knowing exactly what's expected of them, until Gittel discovers something horrible happening to Devory and she has no way to help or respond. 9 years later she is wracked with guilt and haunted by what-ifs. This is a well told story of a community that we most people know little about. It is told with sensitivity and yet is brutally honest about how ignorance can ruin people's lives. Well told.
