I wish there were a 3.5 star rating for this book. How Marquez came to write it is pretty intriguing in itself (it was based on when he used to be a reporter in Bogota) and offers a great insight into colonial Colombia, which I can't imagine hearing about from anybody else. Probably the worst aspect of this book is that it, and all of Marquez' other novels, will always live in the shadow of 100 Years of Solitude. It's beautifully written, but Marquez may never recreate the world of Macondo, or construct another world entirely.

Absolutely amazing. Definitely a new addition to my favorites. I was under the false impression that anything written by someone named "Bronte" would be boring, but I was way off--the first page grabbed me and I couldn't put it down after. Heathcliff is definitely one of the more interesting and diabolical characters in literature. I'm sure I will be reading this one again...and again...and again...
