Though not my favorite Robert Crais book it was still a fun read. I think Elvis Cole and Joe Pike are some of my favorite characters in fiction.

This read was for my book club at the library. I was very excited about it as the setting of Salem MA interested me. The story was multi textured with different perspectives of events coming from different characters as well as the narration. The Whitney women are the main focus of the book, with a gift for seeing the future in the lace they make. The author, spinning the book based on a dream she had, states the book is, at its core, about perception vs. reality and by the end of the book you realize how accurate that assessment actually is. The women see the future in the lace but it's how they interpret what they see as well as how the reader interprets what their reading. Although I didn't feel any strong attachment to any of the characters as a work of literature I found her technique brilliant in it's execution. That is what kept me turning the pages till the end. It was very gothic feeling to me and I wonder if the author was a fan of Phillis Whitney and/or Victoria Holt?
