I have to be honest... I'm not sure I would have been so taken with this book if I hadn't been living on an island for the last 9 months and facing my own issues with the ocean. But because of that, I was totally captivated with the main character's fears and challenges and experiences that shaped him. I loved reading about his time on the island. I loved his companionship with Uri. I think the writing was beautiful and simple. I found a few of the non-English words to be difficult to figure out using context clues, but it only detracted from the story a little bit. Overall I was really drawn into the book and enjoyed the journey.
