perhaps if i was into horse racing i would find this book more captivating than i did. it's a great underdog story, but i just don't have the attention span for the reliving in minute detail of every lap around the track of every workout session, the specific on again off again moments of every rainfall that muddied a track that ended up in a scratched race, the transcription of every conversation surrounding anything to do with the horse, no matter how insignificant.. i think you get the idea. if i am going to read history like literature it either needs to be engagingly written or edited in a way that presents the key aspects of the story without getting overwhelmed in inconsequential minutiae.
