A very quick read. Even knowing it's a ya book, the author didn't have to dumb it down as much as she did. I still thoroughly enjoyed this book.
A very engrossing book. I had a hard time putting it down. The story really evokes China while not seeming derivative. I loved the main character and found all of the principals very three dimensional. Recommended for anyone who likes historical fiction and fantasy.
Just an OK read, but sort of a waste of time for me. 1 1/2 stars, I didn't despise it or want to burn it which I consider a 1 star, it was well written enough, but not quite a 2. I didn't really care about any of the characters, didn't connect with even one, good or bad, to feel for them in the story. I never really got into the story either, it just never caught my interest. She was a secret service agent investigating the hero because of a threat he made on the Governor of Minnesota- which was bogus and she realized it right away. Then the plot switched to counterfeiting, pagan worshipping, chicken blood, sort of cult like, but not "bad cult". I wouldn't recommend this book.
