This was a very powerful book. I was so angry at the treatment of the women at the hands of their husbands, and then alternately angry and sad at the way the nation was treated in the hands of the Taliban. One of those books that are not easy to read (or in this case listen to) but one that should be read by women everywhere. This was not set generations ago - the second half of this story is set post-911. It tries to explain too, the checkered history of Afghanistan, and the various factions that have fought over its lands and peoples over the last 30 years. The CD worked well, as the narrator was clearly from that part of the world, and the pronunciation of names and terms made you feel you were in the story....
