Tritely (not a word) allegorical.
*no spoilers* Though I'm not sure the book ever completely "wow'd" me, I must say I wound up enjoying it. The beginning was slow and a bit frustrating for me...the characters took a while to become vivid for me and only a few did, the mysteries unfolded very slowly the first half, and the lingo of the "community" distracted me (e.g. "klunk" and "shuck" annoying to me and way overused). But, in the second half, I thought the plot picked up steam and pulled me in. Main characters became people I cared about and the plot unfolded to creative and dramatic. The author does a particularly good job with the emotions of the main characters and I truly felt for their desperation to survive. The plot is inventive enough that I didn't feel like I anticipated where it was going. All in all, a good read. On to the sequel.
