I had wanted to read this book for a while, because the subject matter was so intriguing. This is the fictional account of Rachel, a young girl who was banished to the island of Moloka'i in the 1890s after she was infected with leprosy. She had to leave her parents, siblings, and home at the age of 7 and proceeded to live almost her entire life in the leper colony. It's a beautiful story and makes me want to learn more about the history of the colony, especially since my church was mentioned often in the story. Apparently there was a Mormon congregation on the island quite early on. Anyway, a good read, I liked it!
