As a caucasian-american who is on a constant mission to find any kind of cultural roots to identify with, it is always interesting to read about the plight of the other half. Those that are struggling to break away from cultural constraints in order to identify with me. Gogol is 1st generation Indian-American. His name, however, is neither Indian or American. This book sounds like it could be the immigrant story we all know and love. But it isn't. Whitey isn't the bad guy and neither are Gogol's parents. Apparently its been adapted into a film... read the book.
The end is too much like Orpheus story, but is a good book nevertheless.
