There are some good ideas in this book, but nothing really earth-shattering. Taleb covers statistical ideas like survivorship bias in an easy to understand manner and his insights are useful, but his pompous attitude and general disdain for anyone who doesn't appear to know what he knows are quite a turnoff. The good thing about having read the book is that it does sort of make you read financial news with more of an eye towards what the press is missing, if you don't already do so. What I found sort of interesting were the chapters where he discusses why mathematical models of markets are doomed to failure, which today seems awfully prescient given our current financial crisis that was largely caused by failed mathematical models.
