This one was my favorite. I don't really know why. Maybe it's because the kids are playing tag with beasts. Oh, yes. It is amazing.

This is an interrupted "War and Peace" type novel about France's occupation during WWII. Nemirovsky was sent to a concentration camp before she could start part 3 of 5, and only now was the manuscript published. These circumstances, which account for some unpolished passages, make the novel even more moving and tragic. A very good read.
