Useful antidote to the popular habit of thinking of 'conservative' movements as actually backward-looking or reflecting some sort of real tradition. I haven't been able to get in to many of Atwood's books, apart from the new and awesome Oryx and Crake, but I wish the old folks in my life had given me this instead of Brave New World.
