I looked at this book for awhile before picking it up. I *believe* it got a starred review in Publisher's Weekly which I have found to be a pretty good judge if you want something interesting and well written -- never fluffy. The story is set in NYC in 1909, which is a fun twist. It reminded me a little bit of Laurie King's recent Holmes book (also excellent). Anyways, Freud and Jung are both characters in the book and there is a lot of emphasize on a young Freudian trying to psychoanalyze a near-murder victim. The book has lots of twists and bizarre dark characters, which make for an exciting read for murder-mystery and suspense fans. I think the real strong point, however, is the carefully researched descriptions of New York at the turn of the century. Very interesting stuff!

A well researched, beautifully written story of the life of an amazing man.

I'd never wanted to murder a book before this one.
