Really enjoyed it a few years ago as a book and just listened to the audiobook - kids all loved it. Nicely paced, certainly a lot of emotional situations, conflict etc. but they all did well with it. Really fun and absorbing.

FINALLY, McDermid gets her act together and brings us a masterpiece worthy of her characters. The great thing about this book, is the balance between characters. Sadly, a lot of times these books tend to swing to the majority in one way, leaving the other characters in the dust. Not this novel. Everyone gets equal time, and none of it is wasted. Both A, and B stories are engaging and interesting, so you don't mind when you swap between the two. And, despite having seen the BBC WIRE IN THE BLOOD episode adapted from this novel, I still had no idea what the twist was until the end. And to write in such a way as to not trigger my memory and keep me guessing...absolutely brilliant. Sadly, she does mess around with the characters again. Killing one, and another...well...let's just say it's similar to the end of the previous book. This is a little disheartening, but more tolerable somehow.
