The first book in the Millennium Trilogy and what a tragedy that the author died shortly after delivering the books to his publisher. Great story - set in Sweden, so at times you get wayliad with the place names etc. Basically a journalsit is taken to court by a wealthy businessman (who is corrupt) for writing of his financial affairs. Looks like a set up, but as we delve further into the story, more players are involved. The journalist, Blomkvist, is asked by another wealthy retired businessman, to write his family story and hopefully discover whether his grandaughter, Harriet, had been murdered many years ago. Eventually Blomkvist uncovers what actually happened - Harriet ran away and now lives in Australia. She was fleeing from her sadistic father and brother. But Blomkvist still wants a crack at Wennerstrom - the businessman who took him to court, and he starts on this, with the help of Salander, the girl who helped him unravel the Vanger family secrets. Can't want to read the 2nd book.
