I was surprised by how little I actually remembered of this book (I have read this once before many, many years ago). I still really enjoy this book, though I have to say that somewhere around the middle that I was starting to loose interest in it, but I persisted! It cannot be denied that this book is a masterpiece that still holds relevance in the world of today. It is scary to read and imagine what it would be like to live in a world where one's every move is being surveilled to such an extreme extend that would prohibit you from actually being yourself. I would almost classify this book as horror story, although it fails in being true horror in the traditional sense of the word. However, what is most scary, from my point of view, is the fact that it is so easy to imagine that such a society could easily exists today. I'm tempted to say that there are some societies today that are horrifyingly similar to Orwell's nightmare vision of the future. One only has to follow the news of today to see that - think of the situation in North Korea, Middle East, etc... This review has also been posted on my blog.
