As Christians, our desire should be to grow closer to God. Yet we become busy with life and sometimes put our relationship with God on the backburner. Frangipane’s book is about making the decision to put forth the effort that relationship requires. He talks about maturity in God and how we acquire it when we start seeking God without an agenda. “Yet here we are not seeking God for things or even for other people. We are seeking God for Himself. Maturity starts as we break the cycle of seeking God only during hardships; holiness begins the moment we seek God for Himself.” I enjoyed this book and one point he makes is something I find myself refusing to give in to. It’s the idea of being content with fake Christianity. “Know for certain that the moment we stop obeying God, we start faking Christianity.” No human relationship will survive if we don’t invest our time and energy into it and the same is even truer of our relationship with God. Frangipane makes many good points, reminding me of things I’ve grown up hearing but needed to have them brought to my attention once more. I liked that it was a quick read – definitely one I’ll pick back up and read again.

A great combination of personal stories, statistics and analysis to give the full picture of the working poor and how a myriad of issues - including health, education, family structure, personal trauma and housing - combine to create an often hopeless poverty.
