T.H. White's retelling of the King Arthur saga is full of talking beasts and anachronisms -- it's almost more fun to observe the young Wart's education than his adventures as Arthur. Perhaps that's White's commentary on the dangers of growing up. Walt Disney's "The Sword in the Stone," is based off White's book. Like most movie adaptations, the book is better. (Hmm.... there's a bookshelf idea: movies that were better than the books.) If you enjoy this book, you may be tempted to pick up the sequel, "The Book of Merlyn." Be warned: the sequel has little to do with the Arthurian epic -- instead we get White's commentary on modern society and technology. (He's displeased, in case you were wondering.)
