Paradokya Sırlar Geçidi - Cem Gülbent
If there's a buzz around something, then it's probably there for a reason. The Help is not an exception to that rule. While The Help by Kathryn Stockett is a little long at over 500 pages, it goes by quickly and is definitely a must read! I could talk up so many aspects of this book, but I want to focus on just two: Stockett's wit and her ability to create suspense. When I read, I write down quotes that amuse me; I haven't written down this many in a long time. The Help definitely falls into the "entertaining read" category. Here are some examples of Stockett's wit that made this book so much fun to read: -"Got to be the worst place in the world, inside an oven. You in here, you either cleaning or you getting cooked." (13). -"She's wearing a tight red sweater and a red skirt and enough makeup to scare a hooker." (50). -"This Emilio Pucci character must stick his finger in a socket every morning." (446). Building suspense is a main pillar of writing. While everyone does it, some do it better than others. Stockett? Oh, she's good. Authors usually do this by leaving the reader in the dark for a little while but Stockett leaves you in semi-lit room throughout the entire book. It doesn't seem like you're entirely in the dark, there's still room for you to make educated guesses. I liked that I was able to actively guess what had happened without feeling disoriented in the dark. However, the room that I was in turned out to be darker than I had anticipated because my guesses were way off. The Help isn't predictable. I like that. Great book. I can't wait to see the movie.
