I kind of wonder how much people would like this book if they weren't very technical. Being an engineer I understood all of the references to things like ascii code and bootstrapping. Sawyer does a good job at teaching you about new things while you're reading and I really enjoy that, but I still think it helped a lot that I took a lot of CS classes. Anyways, the book does feel unfinished and doesn't stand alone very well. I know it's part of a trilogy so I'll have to finish it up but so far I like it. There were some weird things in this book though, Caitlin does act like a 16 year old girl when she's writing in her livejournal, but when she's interacting with adults she seems to be working off of somewhere near a PHD level education which is a huge contrast to how she presents herself on the internet. I'm glad she didn't read like a 16 year old girl for the whole book though, I probably would have hated it then, but I did notice the contrast in character. I do like how everything in this book is so up to date, with current technologies, but that's what Sawyer tends to do. I am really interested in how people will react to this book in say..... 10 years. Personally I feel like LiveJournal was a big thing around 2000-2004 and then quickly faded. I know that might be my personal feel of it, so hearing about LJ in 2011 makes me think, "oh yeah, I remember that was popular for a while." My guess with the current speed of social networking sites and blogs that in 10 years there will only be a small handful of people that completely understand his references to it. I think because a lot of references in the book are so current on what is big NOW (or more like 2-3 years ago) that this book will be perceived differently in the future. Guess it's time to move onto WWW:Watch.....
