I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The author was not afraid to allow the reader time to learn about the characters personalities and what motivates their actions, so that once the storyline is in full swing the reader feels he/she has been swept along into the uncertaintity and magic of Jacob's new world with him. The dialogue remains perfectly simple and modern while still conveying thought provoking theories and concepts. My daughters are much too young for this young adult novel, but I know I'll enjoy re-reading it when their time comes and I look forward to seeing the story through their eyes and interpretations. Surprisingly good memory of the more innocent times of the X-Men. Times when they don´t recruit Canadian assassins and bald hags not murdered mutants by the millions. The original line-up of X-Men are still teenagers and Xavier their mentor. No betrayal, losses, or dark undertones. Only eight issues of old good superhero fun. It's good that Parker does not attempt of some epic saga (which could be stupid in this case), but gives to reader eight stand alone stories. My favorite is first one and that one with Lizard-Man. Cartoon art of Roger Cruz is suitable for this stories but I can´t imagine it in "normal" X-Men stories. Covers are great. As regards Parkers writing, hope that I will read some of his other comics soon.
